School Board Member, Lisa Sweet was hired for Portsmouth Middle School, Grade 6 Math/Science. Sweet sat on the committee to oversee the $37.5 million Portsmouth Middle School project. Source: Herald Article September 23, 2009.

Sweet voted to hire her now boss, Superindendent Edward McDonough Thurs. Feb 12, 2009 - Source: Herald article here. City Minutes for Thurs. Feb 12, 2009 here and here. The Herald makes note that,

“The board voted 7-2 — Board members Kent LaPage and Rebecca Emerson voted against — to hire McDonough, who is currently superintendent in the Wells-Ogunquit School District, in Maine. The contract will be for three years for an unspecified amount, as it awaits City Council approval.”

Herald Article August 13, 2010 “School Board Vice Chairwoman Ann Walker, who is a member of the school policy committee, said there is no policy that prevents an elected official from applying for and accepting a position in the schools. Walker spoke for herself in saying she doesn’t feel it’s a concern.”
