Teacher, Police, Firefighter Pay Details 2010

School teachers average pay $82,800, including benefits. Police officers average pay $76,146, plus benefits, and firefighters $70,721 plus benefits, both total over $90,000.

School

Average Teacher Salary and Benefits paid out by the city cost taxpayers $82,800 per teacher. In contrast, the average combined household income of Portmouth is only $63,235 – according to the 2008 US Census bureau.

Police

The 2009 average pay of full time officers who worked the entire year was $76,146 plus benefits (please note, we took Arnold, S out of the equation due to the discrepancies between city W-2 and Police Provided records.)

If you run this average without the officers who received accumulated sick pay (the few with the asterisks) you get an average of $72,072 plus benefits for a full time officer.

Now add benefits of 20,000 plus and you get more than $90,000 average spent per officer. That’s for 2009. In contrast, The average combined household income of Portmouth is only $63,235 – according to the 2008 US Census bureau.

Average pay for a Firefighter in 2009 was $70,721 plus benefits.

Add in the approximate $20,000 plus in benefits, and we find that the average Firefighter costs the city over $90,000 per firefighter. In contrast, The average combined household income of Portmouth is only $63,235 – according to the 2008 US Census bureau.

Note in the average we did not average in Young S.L. as that firefighter also recieved income from the Inspection Department.
